Summit offers comprehensive management and inspection services for highway and rail construction and highway maintenance operations. Our CEI technicians provide inspection services for ITS and traffic signal systems, grading, erosion control, drainage, paving and structures.
Our CEI branch has adopted iPad technology so field technicians can now deliver real-time reports, monitor jobs more efficiently and document projects through pictures. By utilizing iPads, Summit has eliminated using the paper previously required for these duties.
The Monroe Expressway is a $450 million new toll road that will alleviate the congestion on existing Highway 74 through Union County. The project officially got underway May 28th, 2015 after many years of delays. Currently, the CEI construction staff consist of four engineers and 34 technicians. Approximately 15 miles of the 21+ miles of new interstate is currently under construction with heavy grading operations to commence by mid-April. Over 10 bridges and 15 box culverts are under construction to date. Excessive rain since October has slowed many of the roadway operations, but the project continued to push forward through the winter months and wet weather. Utility work, water/sewer operations, bridges, clearing and grubbing, erosion control, and culverts have kept everyone busy. The first newly aligned secondary road was completed in January with two additional detour currently in place and expected to be reopened in June. It will be an extremely active spring and summer in Monroe.
